WHISKEY IN THE JAR (2018)
As I was crossing over,
the far-famed Kerry Mountain,
I spotted Captain Farrell
with the money he was counting.
I first produced my pistol,
I then produced my rapier,
I said, "hand that money over,
or you're gonna meet your maker."
Musha-ring dumma doo dumma dah,
wack fol the daddy-ol, wack fol the daddy-ol,
there's whiskey in the jar.
He handed me the money,
I made sure I got every penny,
I put it in my pocket,
and I took it home to Jenny.
Though she said and she swore,
that she never would deceive me,
when it comes to women, lord,
it never can be easy.
(CHORUS)
We went into the bedroom,
all my troubles there forgotten,
but no sooner than I'd shut my eyes,
my Jenny started plotting.
First she took my pistol,
and filled it up with water,
then she sent for Captain Farrell,
to be ready for my slaughter.
(Chorus)
Early the next morning,
right as I'd begun to travel,
I was ambushed by a gang of thugs,
who worked for Captain Farrell.
Now, I only had my pistol,
Jenny had stolen away my rapier,
but I couldn't shoot the water,
and a prisoner I was taken.
(Chorus)
If anyone could save me,
it's my brother in the army.
I think that he got stationed
up in Cork or in Killarney.
And when he sets me free,
I'll start over in Kilkenny,
where I know I'll have it better
than I ever did with Jenny.
(Chorus)
Now some take delight
in their carriages a-rolling,
while others get their kicks
from playing horseshoes or from bowling.
Well, I take delight
in the juice of the barley,
and courting pretty fair maids
'till the morning, bright and early.
(Chorus) 2x
Hey!
